Research

At the Surf-CheM Group, we are devoted to the synthesis and characterization of new heterostructured nanomaterials, with a particular attention on the surface properties.  This allows us to study nanomaterials for different applications, spanning from heterogeneous (photo)-catalysis, energy storage & production, environmental remediation and  biomedical applications.

Synthesis

  • TiO2 and oxides based nanomaterials: doping and heterojunctions
  • Porous materials: zeolites, MOFs, imogolite NTs, porous carbon materials
  • Nanocrystals and nanoparticles (e.g.  QDs)
  • Magnetic nanocomposites

Physico-chemical characterization

Applications

  •  (photo)catalysis
    heterogeneous catalysis (e.g. for environmental
    applications in automotive)
    solar abatement of water pollutants
solar fuels production (LuSH Art Project)
  • environmental applications
    removal of emerging contaminants
  • energy storage

    H2 storage
    CH4 storage

  • bio-medical applications
detection of nucleic acids and other biomolecules in
    complex fluids
    nanomaterials for toxicological studies
